Frida Kahlo Bag with chain
Magdalena Carmen Frida Kahlo Calderon, (Whew) … born in Mexico in 1907. At the age of 18, a bus accident injured her spine and required a long convalescence. 35 subsequent operations left her in pain for the remainder of her short life. Perhaps it was “thanks” to that accident that Frida abandoned her medical studies and began to paint while lying in bed. She asked to have a mirror installed in the canopy so that she could see herself reflected and paint her first self-portrait. Although her style was considered surreal, she maintained that she was painting not her dreams, but her own reality. Today Frida Kahlo has become a symbol of feminism, even though she was fully dependent on her husband, Diego Rivera, and she herself detailed the obsessiveness of her love for him in her diary. Seen like this, despite her spontaneity, her ideology, a fashion sense that was sometimes cheerfully typical of Mexico and sometimes androgynous, and all the rest that is said about Frida, she left evidence both in her painting and writings that she was fragile and insecure. Her emotional nature, her three abortions, and the complex (not to mention toxic) relationship that she had with Diego can all be seen in her artwork. Frida was recognized in her time as a painter, she taught at an art school and even exhibited at MOMA in New York. In 1953 she was taken to her last exhibition in an ambulance. They placed the hospital bed, with her inside it, in the center of the art gallery. The guests were all perplexed, but Frida’s singing, drinking, and joking from her bed turned that exhibition into a great success. That same year her leg was amputated, but she continued painting from a wheelchair. A year later, Frida Kahlo was dead at the age of 47.
This bag is manufactured in London, where they have very cool machines that exceed the highest expectations. The illustration by Lola Menta is printed directly on the skin, then the craftsman cuts the leather to the designer’s pattern. Finally, a team of tailors and seamstresses sew it all together with special thread. Within the overall handmade process, the printing is certified and complies with ISO 12947-2: 1998. We recommend cleaning the bag gently with a damp cloth and avoiding chemical or abrasive products
